We did chores to earn money to buy stuffed animals so police could give them to kids experiencing something scary.

2019
A note from Mom.
A few months prior to Christmas 2019, Leona and Sage were swirling one another on the desk chair upstairs. I was cooking dinner and heard a loud thud. It was the sound that makes a mother’s heart stop and you find yourself flying up the stairs in a single stride hollering, “Are you okay?” Sage was not. She had fallen and busted her head open. She was crying, scared, and yes…there was blood. I put a compress on it and called 911. Within minutes, four police cars and an ambulance were out front. We were blessed enough to have Officer Kelly as one of the responders. She helped Sage stay calm. Leona got compresses as the old ones filled with blood, and even took the initiative to bring Sage her favorite stuffy.

About the same time, Officer Kelly gave Sage a brand new stuffed dog to take care of: “Max”. Both animals rode in the ambulance with Sage and kept her company while she had staples put into her head. “Max” became family. The stuffed animals helped our little girl get through something scary.
So, this year, our “snowflake” was paying it forward. The girls did chores to earn money to pay for new stuffed animals to give to the local police department. Knowing how special Max had been, Leona and Sage wanted other kids to feel that same level of comfort in their own scary moments.
